Puzzle No. 43: "Two By Two"

I've played around with this theme a lot off and on over the past few months. It's really tough to grid, but hopefully it provides a nice a-ha moment as a solver! Thanks a bunch to Nate for test solving an early version of this puzzle — his feedback was super helpful in getting it to a place I felt good enough about to share.
